The Majesty of the Resurrected Christ

This Easter Day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. It’s easy to gloss over the few days Easter represents to us. What with (hopefully) wonderful spring weather, flowers, Easter outfits and all, there’s a good chance we miss out on reflecting on the majesty of Easter.

Only three days before the stunning resurrection of Jesus from the dead He was hanging on a cross, HIs flesh torn, His blood shed, gasping for breath until He finally died.  We think about it very time we take communion, remembering His body and His blood, in “co- union” with Him.

On Easter Day, though, we remember something quite different.  Mary, and then Peter and John to His tomb only to find out He isn’t there.  An angel says, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?” And then Mary sees Him! It must have been incredible! He was really dead the last she knew. She was grappling with all the emotion of grief and then …There He is!

He walked the road to Emmaus with a couple of guys who didn’t even know it was Him.  Not much later He ascended, as Paul writes to the Ephesians, to be seated at the right had of the Father.

We still don’t know much about His majesty, the transition from Man and God to God.  That is, until John wrote about the majesty and power He carries in the first few words of Revelation.  John turned to see Him, someone like the Son of Man! Among his description of Jesus are words like White as snow, flaming like fire, a thundering voice.  He held stars in His hand and a sword came from His mouth, His face shone like the sun in its strength!

Happy Easter Sunday! He is Risen!
