Do You Know How to Worship God?
As I began to talk to my friends and anyone who would listen about my experience with worship, I heard many responses. Chief among the responses were several versions of this statement: “I worship God by doing a good job at work,” or “by loving my family.” In fact you may be saying the same thing to yourself as you this blog. I think these statements misdirect us in our relationship with God.
It’s possible that you’re a remarkable person who actually, really does your job, in every aspect, as if it is worship. Maybe this seems cynical to you, and I don’t mean it this way, but I don’t know anyone who is completely successful at worshipping God in their job.
That’s OK. We all experience life on our journey. We all have good days and bad days.
When it comes to worship, then, what I want to suggest is that there is a difference between doing what you should do: be on time, do what you say you’re going to do, etc. and actually approaching the Throne of Grace and Mercy in worship.
Do you know how to worship God? Do you know what to say, how to act? These may seem like simple questions to some of you, but to others, the answers may seem pretty far out of reach.
But, I know from my own experience that all you have to do is start. If you want to choose to worship God and you don’t know how, start by saying, “Praise the Lord!” It won’t work if you say it only once! Learn the habit of saying it many time s during the day. Find a worship song you like and sing out loud! Like the Nike commercial says, “Just Do It!”
Thank you. God bless you - on your journey today!
